If you read my previous post, Why I Don’t Include My House In My Net Worth, you likely also read some of the comments left by those who agreed, some who disagreed, and some who were, ahem, not thrilled.

Needless to say, I had anticipated there would people who would take take issue with it. I have tried to address those comments individually, but there was one that I thought warranted a post all it’s own.

You should preface this with a warning; “This is not a mathematical or financial discussion. This is based on my own unique alternate philosophical definition of an asset, which is in defiance of the normal definition of that word.”

That would avoid all this well-deserved criticism.

Seems I’ve struck a nerve, but it does raise a valid point — is there any math that can be used to inform my philosophy? In fact, there is!

I left it out of the previous post to focus more on the philosophical argument, but I figured it did deserve it’s own post more in depth.
